175th Anniversary
We celebrated the 175th Anniversary of the first baptism in England Saturday evening, July 7, 2012. It was held in Avenham Park by the Ribble River, the site of the original baptisms. There was a fabulous choir, several readings from the writings of Mary Fielding Smith and Heber C Kimball as well as one from Pres,. Gordon B. Hinckley. The latter was read by Pres. Richard Walker his son-in-law.
The weather cooperated except for light sprinkles half-way through. Everyone just put up their umbrellas and proclaimed "We are British" and went on. Elder Kerr an Area Seventy gave a very nice short address. It was a lovely evening with about 2,000 scattered around the large area. A few folk came in period costume which added to the excitement of the night.
